While Salman Khan offered Bobby Deol a much-needed comeback with Race 3, it was Animal that truly redefined his career and catapulted him back into the limelight. In Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s violent family drama, Bobby portrayed the menacing Abrar Haq, opposite Ranbir Kapoor’s intense Ranvijay.
Despite appearing on screen for barely 25 minutes, Bobby’s haunting presence left a lasting impact. His performance was raw, brutal and deeply unsettling, which was made even more chilling by the fact that his character didn’t utter a single word. The silence amplified the fear and Bobby’s expressions did all the talking, reminding audiences of his immense potential as a performer.

With Animal, Bobby Deol not only reclaimed his stardom but also became a pop culture phenomenon and that made a fan curious who asked, “Did Bobby’s character overshadow Ranbir in the movie?”
In a recent interview with Filmygyan, Bobby Deol was asked to respond to a fan’s comment suggesting that his character, Abrar, overshadowed Ranbir Kapoor in Animal. Staying humble, Bobby replied, “Aisa kuchh nahi hai. Agar Ranbir ko 3 ghante sambhaalne the, mujhe sirf 15 minute sambhaalne the. Agar Ranbir woh 3 ghante nahi sambhaal paata toh mere 15 minute ka koi value nahi hota (It’s nothing like that. If Ranbir had to carry the film for three hours, I only had to handle it for fifteen minutes. If Ranbir couldn’t manage those three hours, then my fifteen minutes wouldn’t have had any value.)”

Animal (2023), directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, stars Ranbir Kapoor as Ranvijay, a conflicted son seeking his father’s approval, played by Anil Kapoor. Rashmika Mandanna plays his wife Geetanjali, while Bobby Deol delivers a chilling performance as the mute antagonist Abrar Haq.
The film explores toxic masculinity, obsession and dysfunctional family dynamics through intense action and emotional storytelling.
On the work front, Bobby Deol was last seen in Aryan Khan’s debut directorial The Ba***ds Of Bollywoood, where he played the superstar Ajay Talwar opposite Lakshya’s Aasmaan Singh.
