Look: How Lauren Sanchez dazzled in Dolce & Gabbana wedding gown

Here comes the bride—Venice turned into a fashion runway on Friday as Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez hosted their lavish wedding. From A-list guests to couture gowns, all eyes were on what the bride wore for her big night.

The newly weds appeared on the cover of Vogue magazine, with the bride in a simple dazzling wedding dress by Dolce & Gabbana.

The magazine stated that the dress, with a mermaid gown silhouette and high neck, was inspired by the dress worn by actress Sophia Loren in the 1958 film “Houseboat,”. It was completed by a long white veil.

Stefano Gabbana from Dolce & Gabbana told Vogue that Sanchez had wanted “to do a very classic and elegant wedding,” not “something very flashy or bling bling”.

Sanchez, a 55-year-old former news anchor and entertainment reporter, took to Instagram to celebrate the look and thank the fashion house for her dazzling look, expressing her love of the dress by calling it "a piece of poetry".

Sanchez told the magazine Bezos begged to see the dress. “But I want it to be a surprise. As you get a little older, not many things surprise you. I can’t wait to see his face," she said.

According to Vogue, the dress took 900 hours of atelier work and features “little, little, little buttons,” per Gabbana, from neck to torso. Known as priest buttons, the motif is continued down the train—180 hand-finished, silk chiffon-covered buttons in all.

Sanchez began to plan for her dress a year and a half ago during a dinner at Domenico Dolce’s New York City condo overlooking the Hudson River.

On picking the gown's style she said: “I researched pictures of brides in the 1950s... I wanted to reflect back, and I saw Sophia Loren... and she was in high lace, up to the neck, and I said, ‘That’s it. That’s the dress,'" she said.

She added it was the first formal dress she’s ever worn which is so covered up across the chest. “It is a departure from what people expect...from what I expect—but it’s very much me," added Sanchez.
