IPL 2025: CSK sinks lower, fans slam Dhoni's poor form

Chennai Super Kings are set to take on Punjab Kings at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in what could be a season-defining match for both teams. After a disappointing run this year, CSK find themselves at the bottom of the IPL 2025 table with just 2 wins in 9 matches. Their famous home ground, Chepauk, has failed to offer any advantage this season with defeats handed by RCB, DC, KKR and SRH. Since their win against Mumbai Indians in the opening match, CSK haven’t had any success at home.

Punjab Kings, on the other hand, are better placed. With 5 wins in 9 matches and one no-result due to rain, they’re in 5th place and eyeing a spot in the top 4. A victory over CSK today could push them up to number 2. This will be the second time the teams are meeting this season PBKS had beaten CSK by 18 runs in their previous clash.

The points table math ahead of the match

Chennai Super Kings’ current position at number 10 means they are in desperate need of a win, not just for points, but for morale. If they win today and improve their Net Run Rate, they could potentially rise to number 9 or even 8 depending on other results. For Punjab, a win would take them from 5th to 2nd, marking a strong late-season surge. With the tournament entering its final month, consistency is key, and PBKS must keep winning to remain in the playoff race.

The Chepauk pitch, traditionally helpful for spinners, might play a big role. Dew in the second innings could impact bowling conditions. Of the five matches played here so far this season, teams bowling first have won three, something both captains may consider during the toss.

Fans take to social media to vent frustration

Social media was abuzz with fan opinions ahead of the high-stakes clash. One user took a dig at Glenn Maxwell and Yuzvendra Chahal, saying, “Give @yuzi_chahal a chance to bat he will play more balls and score more runs than @Gmaxi_32.”

Another fan lashed out at CSK’s team selection and MS Dhoni’s presence: “MS Dhoni, from a star has become a liability for CSK now. A player should know when to leave the arena.” The criticism didn’t stop there. The user pointed to the veteran-heavy squad, commenting, “Why is CSK so low on point table? Because, it is full of retired players – Dhoni, Jadeja, Ashwin etc.”

On the flip side, Punjab fans rallied behind their captain, with one user writing, “I will be go with Shreyas Iyer and Punjab Kings.” With momentum on their side, PBKS fans seem hopeful of another win.

With pride and points on the line, both teams must deliver. But online, CSK’s aging core faces growing criticism.
