Driving License Rule Changed: The Supreme Court has changed the rules regarding driving license in India. Now even if you are a permanent driving license i.e. LMV license holder, you will be able to drive commercial vehicles.
If you want to drive in India, you need a driving license. If you drive a car without a driving license. So it is a violation of the traffic rules made under the Motor Vehicles Act.
You have to pay a hefty fine for driving without a driving license. That is why it becomes very important to get a driving license after 18 years. There are not one but four types of driving licenses in India.
These include learning driving license. After this, permanent driving license is included. After that commercial driving license and then international driving permit is issued. Different licenses are given according to different needs.
Recently, the Supreme Court has changed the rules regarding driving license in India. Now even if you are a permanent driving license holder i.e. a light motor vehicle license holder, you will be able to drive a commercial vehicle.
In the Supreme Court, a five-judge Constitution Bench headed by Chief Justice D.Y. Chandrachud said in its order that now, apart from cars, light commercial vehicles falling in this category including Chota Hathi can be driven with LMV license.
Let us tell you that earlier, to drive a commercial vehicle, people had to get a commercial driving license. Which had to be made separately and a separate fee had to be paid for it. But now light commercial vehicles can also be driven on a normal driving license.
This decision of the Supreme Court will benefit those drivers who drive on a light motor vehicle driving license. Earlier, if a driver holding an LMV driving license became a victim of an accident, the insurance company used legal technicalities to not give them the claim. But now this will not happen.
