IIT Guwahati has released the syllabus of GATE 2026, whose exam will be held on 7, 8, 14, and 15 February 2026. Registration will start from 25 August 2025, and the score will be valid for three years.

Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati has released the syllabus of Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering i.e. GATE 2026. When will the GATE 2026 exam be held?
According to the official schedule, the GATE 2026 exam will start from February 7, 2026. It will be held in four days - on 7, 8, 14 and 15 February 2026. The result of the exam will be declared on March 19, 2026. The most important thing is that the GATE marks will be valid for three years from the date of the result. This means that you can use these marks in the coming years as well.
When will the registration start?
Registration for GATE 2026 will start from 25 August 2025. Candidates will be able to apply without late fee till 25 September 2025. Even after that, application can be made, but for this a late fee will have to be paid. The entire application process will be online only.

GATE score is used not only for PG admission, but also for recruitment in many government and public sector companies (PSUs). Many reputed institutes and companies consider GATE score as an important criterion for shortlisting candidates.
What is new this time?
A special change has been made in the syllabus this time. A new section of 'Energy Science' has been added to the Engineering Sciences paper. Apart from this, there will be a total of 30 question papers, in which candidates can choose one or two papers. However, if someone gives two papers, it will be only as per the decided pairing.

General Aptitude (GA): 15 marks in all papers
Other papers: 85 marks for subject-specific
Marking Scheme
1 or 2 marks for correct answer (depending on the question)
1/3 marks deduction for wrong answer worth 1 mark
2/3 marks deduction for wrong answer, worth 2 marks
