Sunbed wars resume as Spain holiday tourists 'shout at hotel staff' and break through barriers

Shocked Brits on holiday in Spain have shared a shocking video of holidaymakers making a mad dash for sunbeds.

Claire Chivers, 43, her husband, John, 49, and their daughter, Freddie-Maie, eight, jetted off to sunny Benalmádena for a sunny week in the sunshine. However the illusion was quickly smashed when she saw people breaking through barriers and shouting at hotel staff as they tried to get the best seats by the swimming pool.

Mum Claire told BristolPost: “We found it quite amusing, [as] you don’t spend thousands on a holiday to lie down all day. There were plenty of other sunbeds, chairs and sofas available, but these people rushing had to get poolside beds.

“The staff would come and take the towels off. “People [were made to] queue until the guards were taken down. This particular morning, a guest shouted at a staff member asking what his problem was.

“Most people sat there all day, but we preferred to sightsee, visit different places, and take in the culture. Not sit around and only see the hotel.”

In the clip, Claire films as a hoard of people rush toward the pool, throwing their towels on any seat available.

She added she saw hotel staff pull the towels off 'reserved' beds and keep guests away from the pool area before it was officially open. As they arrived, the family-of-three was also caught up in a battle to secure the best sunbeds around the pool.

Claire shared the hectic mission on TikTok, racking up 414,000 views and over 3,000 likes, with the caption: “Ready, steady, go”. Several people shared their views.

One said: “My idea of holiday hell. Another said: “That’s why I don’t go to places like this. Who is going to pick up all of the towels and throw them in the pool?”
