Strictly Come Dancing's Katya Jones makes admission about Wynne Evans after backlash

Send Push

Katya Jones made an admission about Wynne Evans as they sailed through to Strictly Come Dancing's Halloween week.

The pair have been at the centre of controversy this week on the show after an "inside joke" between the pair went wrong. Wynne was accused of making Katya look "uncomfortable" by putting his hand on her waist, but she later denied that she felt uncomfortable and said it was just a joke between the two of them.

Tonight, the pair sailed through to the next round of the programme and will now face Halloween week. Katya was thrilled with the pair making it through and jumped in to give him a hug. Upstairs, whilst chatting to Claudia Winkleman, Wynne and Katya opened up about the lovely women who had been decorating their Welsh training room.

Katya also revealed that Wynne was teaching her Welsh and she thanked their fans by saying "diolch", the Welsh word for thank you.

Wynne previously confessed he was "heartbroken" by the allegations made against him.

"I'm absolutely heartbroken by the things that have been written about me in the last day," he said, "It's not nice to live in that time, but basically Katya and I are really, really close and we're really good friends, and on Saturday night we made a stupid joke.

"It was a stupid joke that went wrong, OK? We thought it was funny. It wasn't funny. It has been totally misinterpreted. Everything's on Katya’s socials. She's talked about it. She's explained that it was a joke. She wasn't offended in the least. She doesn't feel uncomfortable. We've got a brilliant friendship, an absolutely tight friendship, and I'm sorry if anybody was offended by it, but it was a joke. And that's all there is. There is no real story, really."

At the time, Katya also stopped their It Takes Two interview to insist Wynne never did anything wrong.

She said: "Sorry Fleur [East - who hosts the show], sorry, I will get onto dancing I promise but can I please first get something out of the way that I feel like overshadowed our performance for absolutely no reason and quite frankly, actually, I can't bear sitting here watching this man [Wynne] being portrayed as someone he's not.

"In fact, it couldn't be further away from the truth so I have to make this absolutely clear that this whole incident with the hand and the high five on Saturday night it was an inside joke between Wynne and I. Was it a silly joke? Yes! Was it a bad joke? Yes!"
