The 51-year-old acting legend will join Cillian Murphy, , Tim Roth and Rebecca Ferguson for the hotly-anticipated film, which was only confirmed to be in the works earlier this year. Filming is already underway in Liverpool, and will reportedly be set a few years after the season finale which aired in 2022.

The hit period crime drama premiered in 2013 and gained a cult-like following, with Cillian portraying the brooding gang leader Tommy Shelby for six seasons before creator Steven Knight called time on the show. Details of the upcoming movie have been kept tightly under wraps, but Stephen let slip he would be back as Hayden Stagg in a new interview.

The award-winning actor at the London Film Festival that the Peaky Blinders movie would be his next project before he starts filming the Bruce Springsteen biopic Deliver Me From Nowhere. He told the outlet he was “looking forward to seeing the lads again” from Peaky Blinders, but didn’t elaborate further.

Hayden Stagg featured in the sixth and final season of the crime drama, who was a docker and a union convenor who was stealing Tommy Shelby’s opium in storage at the Salthouse docks in Liverpool. His arrival on the show was heralded as genius by viewers, who were blown away by his portrayal of Hayden, despite only appearing in two episodes.

Back in 2022, Stephen spoke about joining Peaky Blinders, and said he was almost starstruck when he met Cillian. “I’ve been exceptionally blessed to have people writing stuff for me, including Steve. I was a huge fan of Peaky Blinders – Tommy Shelby is one of the finest characters I’ve ever seen on television. When I met Cillian, I’ll be honest, I had a flutter. It was the eyes, I was lost in his eyes!” he told GQ.

Stephen isn’t the only actor reprising his role from Peaky Blinders, as Sophie Rundle, Ned Dennehy, Packy Lee and Ian Peck will also be appearing in the big-screen adaptation. Creator Steven hailed the “mind-blowing cast” in a recent interview, as he revealed it would be set “in the Second World War and it’s really good”. He told when news of the film was confirmed that he was “thrilled” to finally get the project up and running.

“The country is at war, and so, of course, are our Peaky Blinders,” he teased. While Cillian, who won his first Oscar earlier this year for his portrayal of J.Robert Oppenheimer in Christopher Nolan’s epic biopic, said he “wasn’t finished” with Tommy Shelby. “It is very gratifying to be re-collaborating with Steven Knight and Tom Harper on the film version of Peaky Blinders. This is one for the fans.”
