Love Island singletons 'get it on' before filming even stars, says Iain Stirling

Send Push

Love Islanders hook up with each other before the ITV dating show starts, it’s been revealed.

This is because before the cameras start rolling, producers record ‘practice’ episodes with contestants to get them used to being filmed 24/7- though the footage never makes it onto the telly - according to the show’s famous narrator Iain Stirling.

So this means the wannabe reality star’s antics are even wilder than what viewers eventually see on screen. And they don’t hold back in the bedroom as there is no reason to worry about hiding under the covers if the scenes will never be aired.

Speaking on US podcast So Bad It’s Good with comedian Ryan Bailey, Iain shared: “We’ve had dry runs of Love Island where we put people who aren’t going into the show. We literally have a three-day practice where people go in. They’re in Love Island, but it’s not on the telly.

“It’s sort of crazy. It’s mad. And if you think people going on the show get up to no good, imagine what they do if they know it’s not televised. Let’s just say it’s not that dry in some cases!”

Though the ITV2 show – which celebrates its 10th anniversary next year – pulled in 21 million viewers in its first week earlier this summer, Iain said he knew it was a ratings winner from the start. He added: “From the minute I saw the first ever dry run in the UK and watching the girls come in and the guys are lined up and they pick the person and they step forward. I thought, ‘This is brilliant’.”

Since the show began in 2015, it has spawned some of reality TV’s biggest stars who have gone on to become millionaires, have huge social followings and careers away from the show.

To date, social media influencer Molly-Mae Hague is the most successful Love Islander of all time. The 25-year-old has more than eight million followers on Instagram alone and is thought to have amassed a personal fortune of £6 million.

Until recently, she was one half of one of Love Island’s most successful couples too. She was in a five-year relationship with boxer Tommy Fury, who she met on the show in 2019. The couple share 19-month-old daughter Bambi. But they split last month following shock claims Tommy had cheated, which he has denied.

Other huge stars that have done well out of the show include Zara McDermott, who went on to star in Made In Chelsea and other reality shows, date I’m A Celeb winner Sam Thompson and is now a documentary maker for the BBC. While Maura Higgins and Olivia Attwood have also gone on to have successful TV careers as presenters.
