Kai Havertz injury ramifications, Trossard exit questions and emergency Arsenal transfer plans

Arsenal have been hit with some awfully timed news, with Kai Havertz set for a spell on the sidelines. football.london understands the player felt something was wrong with his knee, which was suffered during the match with Manchester United.

Despite completing the match, the player is now expected to undergo scans. The news sent the Arsenal fan base into a state of panic, and there was already some unrest surrounding how the window appeared to be ending.

Therefore, with so much on the minds of the supporters, we felt it was a good time to host a question-and-answer session. Here are some of the highlights from what was asked of our lead Arsenal writer Tom Canton:

Question: Is there any chance Trossard still leaves if a proposal comes in from another club given that he’s only got 2 years and the club still want a LW?

Tom Canton: In the wake of the Kai Havertz news, I would say this is almost impossible. While Arteta and the squad are now looking to sign another forward, Trossard holds great value.

His experience playing through the middle may be key, as any forward who comes in might end up being a wide player instead.

Question: Why are Arsenal not pushing harder to sign Eze? Surely it will hurt to see such a big target go to Tottenham of all teams.

Tom Canton: Prior to the news that Kai Havertz was injured, the renewal of Ethan Nwaneri and the fact that the club saw Eze as more of a central player above other roles mean that they have been focusing on a more natural wide player. That may now change after Havertz's injury, however.

There is also financial pressure regarding UEFA FFP and the players who still need to be moved on. Next week is due to be big in regard to the potential for signings. We should know plenty more by next Wednesday's next question-and-answer session.

Side note - This answer was provided before we understood the latest on Eze. Arsenal have now re-ignitied their interest in the wake of the Havertz injury.

Question: How damaging is the Kai Havertz transfer, and what will happen for Arsenal now in the market?

Tom Canton: It is massive for Arsenal and comes close to the worst possible time. Of course, the last time Kai Havertz suffered a serious injury, the January transfer window had just closed and there was no time to respond.

Arsenal this time have at least another week-plus to try and find a late solution to the problem. There was already hope that a third attacking player might come in regardless of whether the Gunners were able to move some players on; now it feels like a necessity, but some sales might yet still be needed for it to free up space in UEFA's Financial Fair Play regulations for it to happen.

Side note - As written above, Arsenal did indeed act, very swiftly, in an attempt to hijack Tottenham's move for Eze. Arsenal will still be keen to sanction some late sales to help balance proceedings.
