was one of spring’s most-talked about films and fans can finally watch the Zendaya drama totally free. Available to , the romantic sports drama centres around the Dune actress as former tennis prodigy turned coach Tashi Duncan.

Married to a champion on a losing streak (Mike Faist), Tashi’s strategy for her husband’s redemption takes a surprising turn when he must face off against the washed-up Patrick (Josh O’Connor) – who happens to be his former best friend and Tashi’s former boyfriend. The film follows their love triangle over 13 years, from their amateur days through to the former friends’ final clash on the court.

Challengers comes from Call Me by Your Name director Luca Guadagnino from a script by playwright Justin Kuritzkes, with Zendaya also serving as producer. It also boasts a score from revered duo Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, who won the Oscar for Best Original Score for their music in The Social Network.

The film was scheduled for a September 2023 release but was delayed by the SAG-AFTRA strike, eventually premiering in March this year, after which it became a commercial and critical success. In a glowing five-star review, said Challengers is ‘exquisitely put together, a work of finely tuned precision’ and ‘phenomenally exciting filmmaking’.

hailed it as ‘one of the most ravenously sexy American movies in recent memory’, in which Zendaya’s ‘effortless’ performance ‘cements her status as a born movie star’. On preparing for the role, the actress told she watched ‘pretty much every video, every match that’s online, every compilation, every interview’ to become tennis ace Tashi.

“Anytime I wasn’t at work, I was watching something,” she said. “My Instagram became full of tennis stuff. Something that is on my side is that I have a dance background, so I tried to approach it from the sensibility of mimicking.

“We found someone that matched my build and I shadowed her. I watched her footwork. I would record videos, endlessly, of us side-by-side, and try to sync up my feet, my hands – just get it as close as possible to what she looks like. That became my focus.”
