Horror as 'evil old man' destroys October 7 anniversary memorial in Brighton

New images show the horrifying moment a pensioner destroyed a memorial to victims of the October 7 massacre and desecrated mementos left to commemorate the dead.

The vandal, who was dressed in beige trousers and a shirt with a black cap, was recorded throwing flowers and ripping off the plaque at the tribute in Hove, Brighton. The man was also filmed hurling a football and teddy bears which were placed at the scene.

The incident happened shortly before the anniversary of the attack which sparked the war in Gaza on October 7 last year. The massacre began with Hamas militants attacking attendees at the Nova Festival, which then continued with a string of deadly attacks which lead to the deaths of 1,195 people.

In the video which is circulating on , the woman behind the camera could be heard questioning "what the f**k...why". The man was also recorded as he picked up a planter and emptied all of the soil out. But as he went to target a photo of a person, another man shouted at him to get his attention.

The clip also showed the passer-by place himself inbetween the tributes and the man to block him from further attacking the site. The video was posted on Sunday with the caption: "Breaking: A memorial honouring the victims murdered on October 7, 2023, in by in Brighton, UK was completely destroyed by this man. Even dead Jews can not be left alone in peace."

Another said: 'Vandalism at its worst—disrespecting the memory of the innocent lives lost.' The video prompted a furious response from social media users. One person said: "I just cannot imagine how evil you have to be to do something like this."

Others branded him an "evil old man" and described his actions as "disgusting". According to reports, the shrine was made in November. Adam Ma'anit, who helped create the memorial, told the : "Israelis and Jews are targets for both the far right and the pro-Palestinian movement.

"They dehumanise the hostages, demonise our community and target any symbols or memorials for their hate. No matter how many times they try to intimidate us, it will not work. They have destroyed our memorial 20 times, and each time, we build it back again. We will never let the haters win."
