The games are coming thick and fast at the moment, and that of course means .
Liverpool sits top of the pile after what has been a sensational start under . The Reds lead Manchester City by two points, while Arsenal sits seven points behind in fifth.
All three sides of course have ambitions to win the title, although they all have their issues at the moment. Slot, and are all having to contend with injury problems that have had an impact on their aspirations, and could yet have a big say in the direction of this season’s title.
We’ve taken a look at each side’s current injury situations, with all three missing some big names.
LiverpoolLiverpool currently has four players out injured with the biggest of those names missing at the moment. Having picked up another hamstring problem at Crystal Palace, we likely won’t see him back until at least the end of this month.
is another big miss for the Reds, having become Slot’s favored No.9 this season. He will hopefully return shortly after the international break – along with , who has been out since fracturing his foot on England U21 duty.
There is still an air of mystery around ’s fitness. The Italian has been out since before the last international break, and given his history with injuries, fans are naturally a little concerned. He should hopefully be back after the next break, although Slot has been coy on a potential return date.
Man CityManchester City’s injury problems certainly look to be having an effect at the moment, with Pep Guardiola’s side having lost their last three games in all competitions, which is practically unheard of during his reign.
City was boosted by Kevin De Bruyne and Jeremy Doku coming off the bench in the 4-1 defeat to Sporting CP on Tuesday, but there are still plenty of big names out at the moment – not least Rodri, with the Ballon d’Or winner set to miss the rest of the season.
Ruben Dias and Jack Grealish are both expected to be out until after the international break while Oscar Bobb will have to wait until December after fracturing his leg. John Stones, meanwhile, could return against Brighton this weekend, although he is perhaps more likely to be back at the end of the month.
“You know the situation with Rodri, nominated the best player in the world,” Guardiola said during his press conference on Monday. “We know we will struggle, and we have to accept that, and it is fine.
“The games will be difficult; in previous seasons, it was smooth. Personal reasons, injuries... we won six Premier Leagues in seven years. Things change, we have to accept that.”
ArsenalArsenal has a lot of work to do to make up the ground it’s already lost on Liverpool and City. Sitting seven points behind the Reds at the moment, any more slip-ups could prove fatal to their title hopes.
To make matters worse for Mikel Arteta, Declan Rice has been added to the injury list, having not made the trip to Inter Milan after picking up a knock in the defeat to Newcastle. The midfielder may return against Chelsea on Sunday, although he’s looking like a doubt at the moment.
Riccardo Calafiori, who missed the 2-2 draw with Liverpool last month, is not expected to return until after the international break after sustaining a knee injury against Shakhtar Donetsk. Takehiro Tomiyasu and Kieran Tierney both look as though they will have to wait until the end of this month, or December, for their returns.
The good news for the Gunners, though, is Martin Odegaard is back, having come off the bench at the San Siro last night to replace Kai Havertz. However, the German will be another concern, having been left bloodied by a nasty clash of heads with Yann Bisseck.
