Bukayo Saka and Cole Palmer injury update given as Thomas Tuchel makes England decision

Send Push

Bukayo Saka and Cole Palmer have both been left out of Thomas Tuchel's latest England squad for the upcoming matches against Andorra and Serbia. The selection suggests both players will be sidelined for at least another couple of weeks.

Saka pulled up with an issue in Arsenal's 5-0 win over Leeds United last week, meanwhile Cole Palmer was injured in the warm up ahead of Chelsea's 5-1 win over West Ham a day earlier. The full extent of both players' injuries is yet to be determined.

Trent Alexander-Arnold has also been left out of England's squad. The Real Madrid player, along with Jack Grealish, who recently transferred to Everton, are notable omissions.

Kyle Walker, who is just four caps away from reaching a century, also finds himself out of the squad. Despite his ambition to reach 100 caps, the 35 year old's recent form may have contributed to his exclusion, despite his move to Burnley in an effort to maintain Premier League game time.

The omission of Alexander-Arnold, who has had a challenging start at Real Madrid, raises concerns. The 26 year old was not included in the starting line-up for Real Madrid's recent 3-0 victory over Real Oviedo.

Despite struggling to secure a regular spot in the England team, this could be seen as a setback for Alexander-Arnold. However, it might be that manager Thomas Tuchel wants to give him time to adjust to life in Spain.

Grealish, who was hoping for a recall, has been overlooked this time, despite Tuchel's known admiration for the forward. Djed Spence has been called up in place of the injured Ben White, while Elliot Anderson also receives his first call-up under Tuchel, reports the Mirror.

Spence's inclusion, following his impressive performances for Tottenham, comes as a surprise, particularly given he has been selected ahead of both Alexander-Arnold and Walker.

Nottingham Forest's Anderson has caught the eye with his performances and could now be in line for a World Cup audition, while Crystal Palace's Adam Wharton also receives a call-up. Jordan Henderson retains his spot.

Arsenal defender White might have been included after Tuchel assessed his form, but an injury sustained on the opening day at Manchester United means he hasn't recovered in time.

Chelsea forward Cole Palmer is in the same boat, missing out due to an injury picked up during the warm-up at West Ham last Friday.

The full England squad is as follows: Goalkeepers: Dean Henderson (Crystal Palace), Jordan Pickford (Everton), James Trafford (Manchester City).

Defenders: Dan Burn (Newcastle United), Marc Guéhi (Crystal Palace), Reece James (Chelsea), Ezri Konsa (Aston Villa), Myles Lewis-Skelly (Arsenal), Tino Livramento (Newcastle United), Djed Spence (Tottenham Hotspur), John Stones (Manchester City).

Midfielders: Elliot Anderson (Nottingham Forest), Morgan Gibbs-White (Nottingham Forest), Jordan Henderson (Brentford), Declan Rice (Arsenal), Morgan Rogers (Aston Villa), Adam Wharton (Crystal Palace).

Forwards: Jarrod Bowen (West Ham United), Eberechi Eze (Arsenal), Anthony Gordon (Newcastle United), Harry Kane (Bayern Munich), Noni Madueke (Arsenal), Marcus Rashford (Barcelona, loan from Manchester United) Ollie Watkins (Aston Villa).
