Chris Hull, the star of BBC One's 'Garden Rescue', has opened up about his journey from a humble gardener to an award-winning landscape designer. He heads his own venture named Greenbook Landscape Design and is recognised for his exemplary work in the field.

Chris shared with RHS how he got his roots into : "I spent a lot of working with my step-dad in woodlands, doing logging, hedge laying and other traditional rural skills."

His upbringing in Devon deeply inspired him and influenced his approach to garden design: "Growing up in the Devon countryside just made me have such an appreciation for the outdoors. I design well-considered gardens that meet a client's brief whilst also being sympathetic to their surroundings."

When he's not creating gardening magic, Chris resides in the South West alongside his wife Zoe, an interior designer, and Stella, the family dog. As he introduced himself on his account, he recounted his outdoor beginnings and career trajectory: "I was working outdoors in the Devon countryside from a young age and then I got my first gardening job at 15 and haven't looked back since."

He outlined the progression of his career: "Along the way I've worked in gardening, landscaping, rural skills, studied ecology and conservation, and ended up doing a degree in garden design @sparsholt_coll where I then went on to work as a designer and set up my business a few years down the line."

Chris's dedication extends beyond design - he's passionate about the natural and its preservation, confessing: "Anything to do with the environment, ecology and wildlife."

Within his professional sphere, Chris is equally zealous about innovative techniques: "Within my own work I'm really interested in sustainable construction methods, beautiful plantings and mental health."

The star shared some insights into his life away from work, revealing he's a fan of leisurely strolls and tucking into a pub lunch.

In conversation with Sitting Spiritually, he waxed lyrical about his adventurous side: "On the more exciting side of things, I ride mountain bikes and BMX which keeps the adrenaline pumping! If I don't get out on a bike of some kind for a while I start to get twitchy."

As he discussed his home life, he joyfully announced a new addition to his family, adding: "We recently have just rescued a five-month-old puppy from Bulgaria called Stella, so although she isn't relaxing right now, my ideal relaxing day will be a Sunday roast and some dog walking with her. "

The Bath-based couple, Chris and Zoe, celebrated their union in 2023 and Chris couldn't help but share their joy on social media. Posting on Instagram, he couldn't contain his delight: "Sorry that it's not garden content but I've just married the most amazing woman ever @zoparr. Thank you to everyone that helped put our amazing day together and to our bloody awesome family and friends. We had an absolute blast!"

Garden Rescue airs on BBC One at 3.45pm
