Prime Video has given the thumbs up to a new romance drama set in university, drawing from a bestseller's pages.

Renowned romance author Elle Kennedy is already connected to Netflix's Bridgerton fame, as its mastermind Chris Van Dusen opts to transform another of her books, Girl Abroad, to the small screen.

Amazon's own screening platform has now greenlit the adaptation of her hugely popular Off Campus book series.

The show's first run will bring to life Kennedy's 2015 hit The Deal, eyeing potential development into her other four installments.

Additionally, Off Campus has been expanded into four extra spin-off novels, the Briar U series, which might nab screen time if season one secures fans' hearts, reports the Express.

TVLine spills the details, teasing a story about "the unlikely romance between a wry, hockey-hating music major and Briar University's playboy star center."

Delving into the world of elite ice hockey, the narrative plans to skate through themes of love, heartache, and self-discovery, capturing the friendships and ties that bind as characters step into adulthood.

Louisa Levy, known for her work on The Flight Attendant, steps up as showrunner, potentially gunning for Bridgerton's romantic TV crown.

A fervent Goodreads reviewer labels Kennedy's creations as "steamy, sweet, and hilarious and had just the right amount of drama and angst to keep us on our toes.

"From the first page until the very last one, I simply couldn't put this book down. This was a completely addictive reading, and believe me I don't mind being a Elle Kennedy junkie not even a bit."

Another person described the novels as "addictive little gems that you inhale all at once, reading non-stop, often in the wee hours of the morning, showing complete disregard for your real life responsibilities, and loving every blissful moment of it."

As excitement builds, comparisons have been made to Bridgerton, with readers noting how each book in the series focuses on a different couple's romance, reminiscent of Julia Quinn's hit novels and the widely loved Netflix series.

A pleased Goodreads reviewer shared, "I'm loving this series of books, they're light and with the basic romances that everyone loves," and "I'm completely in love with Logan, so it was great to be able to read his story.

"I like the idea of reading the stories of each member of the group (it's a bit like the Bridgerton idea, but without being brothers)."

And the enthusiasm doesn't stop there; an avid reader exclaimed, "Holy moly! Squeeeeeee! ! ! ! ! ! ! This book is the bane of my existence (Love it just like Bridgerton). Garrett Graham is the hottest book boyfriend a reader can have! The time they spend in the bedroom is my lifeline!"

Anticipate a bounty of steamy scenes and tantalising romance when Off Campus eventually lands on our television sets.
