A$AP Rocky's takeover of Tranmere in doubt after key investor pulls out

A$AP Rocky’s hopes of buying have hit the buffers after a key investor pulled their funding.

with a swoop for the League Two side. He has joined forces with lawyer Joe Tacopina to buy 80 percent of the club from current owners Mark and Nicola Palios.

It was previously reported that a consortium led by Tacopina has offered £15m for ownership of the club. But any deal has hit a significant snag.

According to , one of Tacopina’s key investors has pulled out of talks. They were thought to be offering around 30 percent of the total funding.

The reason for their decision to pullout allegedly revolves around the ’s requirements for the deal. It is suggested that while they did not fail the league’s owners’ and directors’ test, they were reluctant to provide the EFL with the relevant information that they were demanding.

Tacopina is now in the process of looking for fresh investment although there are suggestions that there is no lack of interest. Once a deal is completed, a documentary in the style of that based around is planned.

Former FA boss and current Tranmere owner Mark Palios recently opened up on talks and refused to confirm whether Rocky was involved. Speaking to Sky Sports, he said: "You'll understand, I'm covered by non-disclosure agreements, not just with Joe Tacopina, who's related to A$AP Rocky, but with other parties who are looking at the club.

“What I would say is the American market is hot to trot at this point in time for a whole host of reasons. They've got the World Cup coming up.

“They've always viewed European sporting assets as undervalued. And, 85 million Americans watch English football, 45 million of them are not dedicated to any club. You've got the Wrexham effect as well. So it is an attractive proposition, and I, of course, think Tranmere is an attractive proposition."

And while the process is ongoing, he did also confirm that there had been interest from elsewhere. As quoted by Radio Merseyside, he said: "Joe has been at games but so have other people that people don't recognise because they're not as well known as him.

"Joe is an interesting character and he's one of a number of people who are interested in the business and as soon as we're able to say anything then we'll of course tell the fans."

Tranmere currently sit 19th in League Two after 13 games of the season. They are back in action on Saturday as they host Oldham Athletic in the first round of the .
